Remodelling of this herne bay bathroom was part of a major apartment renovation that Celia Visser Design undertook for the clients, a professional couple. The brief was all about enduring design, relaxation, and creating a sense of calm and tranquillity in a refreshingly modern way. Herne bay bathroom
The clients must-have was a stand alone bath as the piece de resistance in the room, but the design challenge was the inability to change the position of the original plumbing due to the location of the two high-rise service shafts. The lack of maintenance elevators, dictated that all products & joinery needed to be carefully considered in the design process to fit within the tight space of the public lifts. Thus restrictions of the area were quite problematic and required creative solutions from all trades involved to some quite demanding issues that arose. Working together as a team provided the desired outcomes.
A textured veneer deck was designed to surround the oval shape bath while still giving the appearance that it was freestanding as a strong organic form. The sophisticated concave wall mounted tub filler was designed to appear as a sculptural object floating on the Laminex Motivofeature panel, from which water cascades into the tub while the mixers sit on the deck. This sculptural element carries through into the shower column. The depth of the wall had to be designed so water from the filler hit the bath at exactly the right position, so not to cause splashing.
Possessing a preference for modern simplicity and functionality, but commanding attention this elegant bathroom was the perfect vision the owners were seeking.
The freedom and trust that this client gave me to “let loose” with my creativity on the interiors of their whole apartment is a career highlight.
