Howick project

The design of this kitchen had to be “sharp, and eye catching”. Using the clients’ simple brief the designers had a fresh page on which to create this new residential kitchen. A practical working space with style and a dash of spunk, that would withstand the test of design expiration. It had to be a kitchen that was not seen as an obscurity, but a pleasing structure to live and work in.

This kitchen was to be one of the fundamental points in aiding the sale of this new family home.

Early on in the design process it was decided to relocate the kitchen to another position in the same room, allowing the kitchen to be a monolithic interface between living and entertaining spaces.

The designers’ ethos for the space was a symmetrical streamlined approach using formal balance in a fashionable chic simple way.

First impressions were the crucial element in resiting the kitchen, This made a dramatic change to the style and size of the kitchen the designers were able to create. It allowed the space to flow seamlessly from living room to family room achieving a balance between contemporary and relaxed living. All windows flanking the kitchen area were re-designed to emphasise the strong linear lines of the kitchen structure and create balance.

The design success lies not only in the practical function of the space but the subtle yet dramatic colour scheme of this kitchen, which created balance between the two elevations.
